The 2009 World Championship at Cowal, Dunoon Scotland once again saw the Kiwi’s at the top of the podium with 4 times Junior World Champ Morgan Bamford, of Lawrie Studio claiming her 5th World Championship  title while competing for the first time in the Juvenille section 16&17 yrs. Also unbeaten in her age group at the Scottish Championships 11yr old Abby-Jane Taylor from the Appleton-Seymour Dance School. Abby-Jane will be eligible to compete at the World’s next year when she turns 12.  Congratulations to both dancers, their teachers and parents,    WE ARE VERY PROUD OF YOU. Cowal Gathering 2010

Every year over 650 Dancers of all ages and from every quarter of the globe descend on Dunoon to contest the most prestigious events in the Highland Dancing calendar on the famous Cowal platforms before a huge, knowledgeable and enthusiastic audience.

The dancing gets off to a flying start on the Thursday of Cowal with the Scottish National Highland Dancing Championships. This competition sees the cream of our homegrown Scottish Highland Dancers competing against each other for the silverware. Dancers from as young as 8 travel from all over Scotland to participate.

Friday sees the dancing take on an international feel with dancers coming from as far away as America, Canada, Australia, New Zealand and South Africa to compete in the Scottish Championships and the qualifiers for the World Highland dancing championships. The World Championships are the most important event in the dancing calander and bring the worlds finest dancers to Cowal to compete for the ultimate title of World Champion. The standards are incredibly high and you will be amazed at the grace and skill on display.

To win a Cowal Gold Medal is the ultimate ambition of every Highland Dancer – In 2010 New Zealand dancers won not only the Junior World Championship (Morgan Bamford) they were runner up in the 12yr old Scottish Championship (Abby-Jane Taylor) – and also winner of the 11 yr old Scottish Championship (Holly Keir) Congratulations to Judy Clark and Julie Appleton-Seymour for all your hard work.
